Questions people ask
Is Morterra free?
Yes. The store sells cosmetics, name colors and a membership, and none of it makes you stronger.
Do I have to download anything?
No. It runs in your web browser on PC and Mac.
Can I play on my phone?
Yes, with touch controls. It also works with an Xbox or PlayStation controller.
Do I need an account?
You can start as a guest. An account keeps your name, skills and purchases on any device.
When does the map wipe?
On the 1st of every month, if the last wipe was at least 15 days earlier. Type /wipe in the game to see the date. More on the seasons page.
What do I keep after a wipe?
Your skill levels, your account, your friends list and anything from the store. Bases, items and land claims go with the map.
How many people play on one world?
Up to 100 at a time.
Is there PvP?
Everywhere on the island. Killing players with good karma lowers yours, and anyone under 50 karma ends up on the bounty board.
How do I raid a base?
Break wooden walls with a hatchet and stone or metal with a pickaxe, or craft bombs and dynamite at the alchemy table. The building and raiding guide has the numbers.
Can I play with friends?
Add them to your friends list, start a guild of up to 20 and build on each other's land. Hold V to talk to anyone near you.
What skills are there?
Fifteen: Mining, Woodcutting, Fishing, Farming, Hunting, Excavation, Smithing, Carpentry, Tailoring, Cooking, Alchemy, Taming, Strength, Agility and Archery. They level as you use them. See how it plays.
Who makes Morterra?
Two friends, Tyler Giacoma and Levi Foster. They met in high school and bonded over RuneScape, Minecraft and Rust, and they've built a lot of projects together since, including a successful marketing and real estate investment company. Morterra is their passion project. It started as a Java game in 2011, and you can read the whole history.
