Morterra goes 3D: the July 2019 browser update

On July 11, 2019 Morterra became a 3D game. The browser survival game switched to low-poly 3D graphics that run on most modern computers.

Morterra moved to 3D in July 2019. The online survival game, playable in the browser since November 2017, switched to low-poly 3D graphics. We built it to run on most modern computers, including ones without a strong graphics card.

A 3D version had been on our plans list since the Java alpha in 2016, and we listed it again when the game moved to the browser. By the time it was done we had put thousands of hours into the game.

The announcement came with screenshots of player bases from around the game, and we asked people to try it and send us any feedback they had. The first big content update for the 3D version was the foundry update in September 2019.
